The mission of the Vestavia Hills Arts Council could not be pursued without the volunteer effort of its board members. If you are interested in serving in this area, we want to hear from you!
Faith Lenhart, President is a long-time Vestavia resident and Vestavia Hills City Schools employee. Mrs Lenhart served as the dance director and performing arts chair at Vestavia Hills High School for 22 years. In 2022, Faith moved into the role of Director of Arts Education for Vestavia Hills City Schools. She has a BS in Dance Education, a Master in Administration and Leadership, an EdS degree in Educational Leadership, and certification in Arts Integration. Mrs. Lenhart is a past president of the Alabama Dance Council and founder of the Alabama Dance Educators Association. She was selected to pilot the National Core Arts Standards in 2017 and serves on the Alabama team to write the arts education state standards. Her passion for arts education has allowed her to promote the arts with creative solutions and support for arts teachers and school administrators. Faith enjoys spending time with friends and family. She and her husband, David Lenhart have two sons and a spunky dog.
Kelly Love, Vice President, is an independent, arts-based researcher and sustainability design consultant. She is a native of Cahaba Heights with a passion for the arts, social justice, travel and writing. The daughter of an educator/artist and public health officer/jazz singer; her upbringing rooted within her a deep curiosity to understand the positive impact on human potential developed at the nexus of creative work, lifelong learning and public service. Her uncommon life journey includes being an accountant, social activist, arts evangelist, photographer, community organizer and educator; leading her to research arts-based social innovation with the Leonard Bernstein Center, Harvard Project Zero, Vanderbilt University and Scottish Executive. Recognized by Queen Elizabeth for her doctoral research articulating the unique culture of exemplary trans-national creative initiatives, she developed arts and lifelong learning policy for Creative Scotland while with the University of Edinburgh. Her fieldwork transects decades, disciplines, dogmas, nations and a variety of degrees. Foremost, as an ethnographer, she seeks to understand and develop the vital work of creative culture wherever it emerges. A proponent of local engagement for global good, she collaborates with communities of all ilk to propagate creative ecosystems which nourish humanity and foster social resilience. Kelly joyfully lives and works between Scotland and Alabama with her lovely husband and two sweet rescue dogs.
Jessica Garrison, Secretary is a Vestavia resident and is currently serving as Secretary on the board of the Vestavia Hills Arts Council. She has been a supporter of the arts for as long as she can remember. An avid fan of both Theatre and Visual Art, she is the daughter of an education curator for an Art Museum and mother to active thespians. Seeing the joy and enrichment all forms of Art bring to a community, she is an active volunteer in several theaters including Red Mountain Theatre and Virginia Samford Theatre. She also assisted Dolly Ridge Elementary in their theatre endeavors for the past 4 years. She has four children in the Vestavia City School System from 6th grade to 11th grade. Art brings a community together and she hopes the council can continue to do just that.
Lissa Peterson is a Vestavia resident with a lifelong love of the arts. She holds degrees in Theatre and Mathematics and loves to attend local plays, exhibitions, and concerts. As a Data Analytics and Visualization Consultant, she helps companies connect and visualize data to support strategic decision-making. She is the mom of two students of Vestavia Hills High School, both of whom are active participants in the arts.
Robin Morgan, Jr. is a long-time resident of the Birmingham area and avid supporter of the arts. He has served on several committees and boards in the city of Vestavia including the Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Vestavia Hills as well as serving with the Birmingham Museum of Art, where he was a member of the “Collectors Circle” which is the support group for contemporary art at the BMA since about 2013. .
Robin helped to establish the Cahaba Heights Spring Fling and Rocky Ridge Fall Festival, and served as chairman and moderator of the pivotal 2000 Chamber of Commerce Candidates Forum. He was also instrumental in publishing the first annual Vestavia Hills Living magazine and helped double the size of the Chamber membership and was instrumental in creating Viva Vestavia, a celebration of cuisine in the Vestavia Hills community. Through Leadership Vestavia Hills, Robin implemented the initial class of Youth Leadership Vestavia Hills (YLVH) with Kelly Bottcher and Kym Prewitt as mentors, and then revamped the Citizen of the Year event to the committee driven model that it is today. He also chaired the Citizen of the Year Committee in 2010, mentored many LVH project groups over the years, organized and moderated numerous LVH Economic Day classes and Government Day classes as co-leader.
Robin served on the Long-Range Planning Committee which, at the time, analyzed the potential annexation of Cahaba Heights and created the current Strategic Plan (later called the Comprehensive Plan) for Vestavia Hills. He also served on the Parks and Recreation Foundation Board during the years that the land for McCallum Park and the Sicard Hollow Sports Complex was purchased.
Ben Reynolds is a Vestavia native and proud product of the city’s fine art programs. He traces his creative pursuits to fifth-grade music class, where he earned his recorder ‘black belt’ at the expense of his parents’ hearing. After graduating from VHHS in 2020, Ben earned a BA in English from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. He worked as a podcast editor, non-profit intern, and writing fellow before accepting his current role within The University of Alabama’s Department of Art and Art History. As the department’s Communications Specialist, he’s beyond fortunate to support the state’s community of talented visual artists and educators. Ben is also an award-winning creative writer and has contributed work to publications across the region. He’s excited to increase creative opportunities for all Vestavians while on the board. When he’s not writing, you’re liable to find him playing guitar, pickleball, or fetch with his dog Jeopardy.
Natalie Russo is a professional artist creating from her studio in Vestavia Hills, AL. Known for her colorful designs, bold ideas, and vibrant portraits, her work captures energy and emotion in striking compositions. Born and raised in Hoover, AL, Russo earned a degree in Art and Fashion Design from the University of Alabama and further pursued graduate studies in Arts and Medicine at the University of Florida. A dedicated artist from a young age, she continues to maintain an active and evolving artistic practice. Her work spans multiple mediums and can be found in large-scale installations, including her ongoing display at The Pizitz Food Hall since 2020. She has hosted solo exhibitions at The Grand Bohemian Gallery and Trim Tab Brewing and frequently showcases her work at Pepper Place Farmers Market, local festivals, and community events. In addition to her studio practice, Russo is a sought-after live event painter, traveling across the country to create custom portraits at weddings, corporate events, and private parties. Her ability to capture personality and emotion in real time has made her a favorite among clients seeking a unique and personal artistic experience.
Kimberly Kirklin is the Director of UAB Arts in Medicine (AIM), a partnership between UAB Center for the Arts and UAB Medicine that enhances healing and wellness through creative engagement for patients, families, healthcare staff, and the community. She began her career in arts administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center in 2002, where she learned firsthand the transformative power of the arts. She played a key role in developing ArtPlay, the center’s education program, and expanding access to the arts for schools, communities, and older adults. In 2013, Kimberly led the effort to bring the arts into the healthcare setting, co-creating an arts in medicine pilot program at UAB Hospital that later expanded into UAB AIM. Kimberly’s interdisciplinary background includes degrees in performing arts, arts in medicine, and mental health counseling. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Behavior at UAB School of Public Health.
Meg Deusner is an actress, acting coach, and casting director. As the founder and owner of Acting Out Academy, an acclaimed on-camera acting school for young actors, she’s been instrumental in the success of young actors who’ve gone on to work professionally in film and TV. Her students have been featured in series and movies on Netflix, Disney +, ABC, CBS, NBC/ Universal, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Lifetime, Paramount +, PBS, CW, and The WB, as well as in major studio films and on Broadway. Meg began her casting business, Birmingham Casting, in 2013 and has cast over 150 commercials, films, and TV shows in the Southeast and NYC. With over 20 years of experience working in the entertainment industry, she works closely with regional and national talent agents and managers to find and develop emerging talent in the Southeast.
Jamie Zarrilli Grimes is honored to serve on the Board for the Vestavia Hills Arts Council. She began her dance training in Huntsville, Alabama, and has been teaching and choreographing for the past twenty years throughout Alabama. In 2004, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in dance and a minor in theatre from the University of Alabama. From
2007-2009, Jamie served as the Director of Dance for the Shades Valley Theatre Academy where she created numerous pieces of award-winning original choreography. In 2015, Jamie furthered her study of anatomy and injury prevention to become a certified barre fitness instructor. Jamie is currently the Company Manager and Treasurer for Magic City Performing Arts wherein she serves on the artistic staff and also writes grants for sponsor
development. She has been on staff with Vestavia Dance as a ballet instructor since 2016 and is certified through Youth Protection Association for Dance. Jamie lives in Vestavia Hills with her husband, Charley, and their three sons.
Originally from Conyers, GA, Samantha Goolsby moved to Vestavia from North Carolina with her husband and two children in 2023. She is currently working toward a PhD in Music Education at the University of Alabama, where she also teaches music education classes. Prior to beginning doctoral studies, she taught middle and high school band in North Carolina for ten years; her students regularly earned positions in district- and state-level honor bands, and her ensembles earned superior ratings at district assessments. Mrs. Goolsby holds an MA in Music Education from the University of Alabama and a BA in Music and French from Wake Forest University. In addition to music, she enjoys crochet, gardening, and mahjong, though most of her “free” time is spent with her children at various Vestavia recreational sports.
Maury Levine is excited to serve on the Board of Directors for the Vestavia Hills Arts Council. A long-time Vestavia Hills resident, Maury graduated from Vestavia Hills High School, where he was a drummer in the band program. Maury graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and participated in the band program there as well. Maury continues to work as a professional drummer, having performed in over two hundred musical theatre productions. You may have heard or seen him in productions at Virginia Samford Theatre, Red Mountain Theatre, Birmingham Festival Theatre, Terrific New Theatre, Homewood Theatre, Theatre LJCC, Birmingham Children’s Theatre, Alabama School of Fine Arts, and many others. Maury is also a humor writer, having authored the comedic mystery Shopping Bagged and the children’s book Oliver’s AI-Generated Silly Picture Book. Additionally, his short-form humor is published on several popular comedy websites, including Points in Case, Robot Butt, Little Old Lady Comedy, and The Short Humour Site (UK). Maury’s children graduated from Vestavia Hills High School, with one twin in band and one in choir. Go Rebels!
